Converting to #vegetarianism and then #veganism many years ago, the inspiration was built out of an epiphany: I didn't need to take #animal lives and contribute to the #exploitation and #cruelty that came with #factoryfarming and industrial meat production to sustain my own life. Since then, not once--ever--have I looked in the rearview mirror with regrets or contemplation of reversing course. One significant reason is that it has never been easier to give up #meat and #dairy. It is also proving to have never been smarter as supported by "Live longer with these dishes from 'blue zones' in America," a #CNN article by Sandee LaMotte.

#Compassion and an #ethical existence--at least as much as we can--are powerful once they come into focus. Saving a life versus taking a life is less about me being "better" than someone else and more about being a better me. When it comes to a #plantbased diet I am addressing #animalwelfare, I am making a positive impact on #climatechange, #water use, and deforestation, and I am fueling my body and producing #energy in the healthiest way possible.

In the #UnitedStates, a never-ending battle around #healthcare costs and availability perpetually rages on. According to the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, the percentage of obesity among U.S. adults is the worst in the world. Meanwhile, the planet is overheating and resources are dwindling.

Maybe it's time to act?
